Quality Logging

Q-SYS Quality Logging has been designed for the Food and Drinks, Brewery and Dairy sectors. Typically, these organizations have hundreds of products/product combinations, high production throughput, and pressure to record, test and report results quickly.

Clyde Computing have over 25 years’ experience in these industries, resulting in efficient, easy to use software covering all typical quality control needs, and enabling our customers to fully meet the demanding requirements of their customers and audits. We completely configure your system to meet your exact needs with minimal effort on your part. Q-SYS has been continually developed, incorporating customer feedback to ensure a truly comprehensive, intuitive, efficient and flexible environment.

Designed for ease of use, with under-pressure QC and Production staff in mind, Q-SYS Quality Logging returns tangible benefits in very little time. Quality Logging data may also be combined with information from Q-SYS LIMS to give complete flexibility, and uses shared databases that enable you to define your products just once.

Q-SYS Quality Logging provides a simple operator interface, optimised for touch-screens, but may also run on standard Windows hardware.

Key Features

  • Allows Weight, Process Control, Quality Attributes and HACCP checks to be logged, reported and analysed.
  • Deals with average, minimum and catch-weight standards.
  • Attribute and other checks are automatically compared against Specification.
  • All materials/ingredients can be recorded with supplier, quantity and release information against a unique batch reference: At the start of each production run, Q-SYS prompts the plant operator with the materials to use.
  • As production continues, Q-SYS prompts operators (with work instructions) for the quality and process checks to be recorded - the software then prompts operators how many packs to weigh.
  • Each check is compared against Specification, results are highlighted in colour, and clear operator warnings are given with the ability to record actions taken, and instructions as to what they should do.
  • Product recognition by barcode scan, including box and pallet barcode checking.
  • Line stoppages can be recorded in detail for subsequent analysis.
  • Graphical trends for a run, for any check, can be plotted against target on screen, at the press of a button.
  • All system management can be undertaken from any location on site, and automatic messaging can inform remote staff of any problems.

Benefits

  • Simple and quick to use, saving time and freeing inspectors for other tasks.
  • Data entry is either automated or simplified, reducing costly errors.
  • Helps eliminate over-fill to reduce packaging costs, while also helping meet Trading Standards requirements.
  • Minimises errors, downtime and wastage.
  • Provides the traceability your customers demand.
  • Enables managers to view the system, and production progress, from anywhere on site.
  • Reduces the use of paper, saving you money and benefitting the environment.
  • Improved security and reliability relative to a paper-based processes.
  • Interfacing to any make of scales or instruments is possible, so you can have a mix of equipment.

In Detail

The Q-SYS Specifications module is what drives Quality Logging. It specifies what quality checks are to be performed on how many items, what product identification information can or must be entered, and the targets, validation and limits applied to the entered checks.

Specifications are set up for all materials and products being checked. Specifications are uniquely numbered, as are all versions; the history of all changes is retained by Q-SYS. Each version can also include documentation of any changes and provide an alerting feature when a revised specification comes into effect.

SSpecifications for each quality check typically include maximum, minimum, upper and lower warning limits and upper and lower mandatory limits. Each limit can also have a customised on-screen or spoken message defined, which QC’s and operators see as they enter checks.

For average weight and other process-related checks, Q-SYS allows the full range of statistical parameters to be set up, and calculates T1, T2 and other parameters automatically.

Q-SYS uses this information to highlight results automatically, calculate and advise operators of machine adjustments needed to meet weight standards, automatically determine whether a product can be released, and alert QCs and managers to issues.

Specifications, and all versions can be printed or exported in any format to provide customer reports, management review information or operator checklists.

The Specifications module is also shared by the other Q-SYS modules. This means that, for example, if you are conducting on-line quality and weight checks using this module, and also testing products in the laboratory, the same specification is used for everything.

  • Staff are prompted to carry out the correct checks
  • The correct number of packs are weighed/ checked
  • Results are highlighted and customised messages displayed
  • T1 and T2 actions are enforced
  • Staff are warned if a specification has recently changed

Q-SYS provides a comprehensive suite of standard reports and exports, which have been developed to meet typical needs. When we survey your requirements, we will identify any specific reporting needs and provide these when configuring your system.

You’re also able to design your own reports, using the built-in report and export designer, which are integrated into the underlying database technology. Q-SYS allows the generation of reportable data in many formats, including on-screen, printed, PDF, spreadsheets, XML, .csv and other text formats.

Q-SYS includes integrated email and fax capability. Reports and spreadsheets can be emailed to customers/suppliers/staff direct from standard menu options or from custom designed batch reporting routines, which can run automatically if required. Q-SYS also provides the ability to password-protect PDFs, allowing you to send important reports to clients with confidence.

After your system has been installed, Clyde Computing provide a comprehensive custom design and consultancy service, giving you the option to have new reports and reporting routines made to your exact specifications.

Security and auditability is central to Q-SYS.

Security and auditability are central to your operation. Every action performed on Q-SYS is traceable back to the user, time, date and workstation, providing you with full auditing and accountability. Q-SYS gives you and your customers the peace of mind that comes from knowing your data is secure.

  • Automatic notifications can be emailed to system administators
  • A log maintains details all deletions, error messages etc. along with the user, location, date and time
  • A secure internal messaging system and bulletin board is provided to enable staff to be notified of production schedule changes, new products, specification amendments, etc.
  • Secure database preventing external mining or manipulation of data.
  • Hierarchical passcode system means different levels of access can be allowed according to user group.
  • All data is stored for as long as is needed.

Q-SYS Quality Logging is designed to allow increasingly complex quality attribute and HACCP checks to be recorded in real time, with no paper.

  • Full production batch traceability ensures that any material/ ingredient batch can be traced to any intermediate or final product.
  • All incoming raw materials and ingredients can be recorded with supplier, quantity and batch information.
  • The system helps ensure that only released batches of ingredients and materials are used.
